Ferio Tego Summa Torpedo

“Summa” is the Latin word for a comprehensive summary or treatise, or total, or archetypal example. It is a word commonly used in theology and philosophy. In fact, the first thing that comes to mind when I see the word “summa” is St. Thomas Aquinas’ unfinished masterwork, Summa Theologica. So, I was intrigued when I saw the word “summa” attached to a cigar.

Wrapper: Ecuadorian Sumatra
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Nicaraguan, Dominican
Size: Torpedo 6 1/4 x 52

The Ferio Tego Summa Torpedo presents itself with a medium brown wrapper that is smooth and boasts an oily sheen. The draw is excellent and the pre-light draw is a pleasant mix of barnyard, leather, caramel, and hay.

Upon lighting, the cigar offers a very smooth and creamy mouthfeel, giving notes of hay, leather, nuts, and a hint of salt, complemented by buttercream and a soft cedar pepper spice in the retrohale. The burn is even, and the ash holds for just under an inch before it wants to fall off.

In the second third, the flavors of leather, cedar, and nuts deepen, with white pepper making a notable appearance in the retrohale. The burn remains perfect, and the cigar continues to deliver a smooth and creamy experience with a nutty, buttery finish.

In the final third, the sweetness builds back up, bringing forward flavors of salt, nuts, sautéed butter, and leather. The cigar stays smooth throughout, with perfect construction and burn. The cedar and leather flavors deepen towards the end, making for a well-balanced and subtly complex finish.

Michael Herklots wrote that the Summa line “highlights the incredible trifecta of body, flavor and intensity… and maximizes those levels with wonderful balance.” That is an accurate summation of what this cigar offers. The Summa Torpedo is not just blowing smoke. Highly recommended.
