Arturo Fuente Hemingway Signature Oscuro Sungrown
- Wrapper: Habano
- Binder: Dominican
- Filler: Dominican
- Size: Signature Figurado 6 x 46
Available exclusively at TAA retailers for now, the wrapper is rumored to be the same Sungrown used on the Ashton VSG.
The dark chocolate brown wrapper is slightly toothy, providing a very nice draw. Initial flavors include cocoa, cream, and coffee.
As you smoke, you’ll notice smooth, creamy, semi-sweet dark chocolate, and that quintessential orange citrus zest often found in Fuente’s cigars. There’s a chalkiness to it, with notes of black pepper in the retrohale. The ash is firm and holds for about an inch, with no issues in construction or burn. The burn line is thin and even.
As the cigar progresses, the smoke becomes creamier with flavors of cocoa, coffee, and nuts, while the orange zest fades. There’s still plenty of spice in the retrohale, but not as much as in the first third. The cigar is medium-plus in body and medium in strength.
In the final third, the flavors shift to more woody, oaky notes. The cocoa moves to the background, and the creaminess lessens. The citrus returns and the spice in the retrohale becomes a gentler baking spice. Additional notes of leather, cedar, and pear emerge.
The Hemingway Signature Oscuro Sungrown is definitely not just blowing smoke. As a big fan of the Hemingway Signature Natural, which features a Cameroon wrapper, I was hesitant to try this new iteration. I’m glad I did! Highly recommended.
