I am a big fan of G.L. Pease tobaccos, so I was excited to hear that Greg was coming out with another addition to his Zeitgeist series. Is it worth picking up? In this video, I pop a tin and share my thoughts on Mr. Pease’s Ellipsis Flake.
G.L. Pease Ellipsis Flake is the fourth entry in Greg Pease’s latest tobacco series, The Zeitgeist Collection. This collection aims to take a modernist spin on traditional blends, and Ellipsis Flake is a Virginia/Oriental blend comprised of Red and Bright Virginia, Izmir, Burley, Perique, and unsweetened Black Cavendish
Upon opening the tin, I am greeted with a fruity aroma, reminiscent of hay and figs. At first light, the initial flavors include stone fruit, figs, nuts, and chocolate. The retrohale offers a complex mix of red pepper, citrus, raisin, and cream.
As the bowl progresses, the blend becomes more woody and nutty, with floral notes in the retrohale, accompanied by citrus and lemon flavors, and a hint of rye bread. The blend continues to evolve, becoming creamier with notes of sourdough, wood, nuts, black pepper, and cedar in the retrohale. Cocoa, fig, and raisin linger in the background.
Having been a fan of G.L. Pease blends for over 25 years, I can confidently say that Ellipsis Flake does not disappoint. Ellipsis Flake is not just blowing smoke; it offers a well-balanced, complex, and nuanced experience that is truly a pleasure to smoke. Highly recommended.
