CANH “Fiddlehead” by Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust is a limited edition made for member stores of the Cigar Association of New Hampshire (CANH). Production was around 700 10 count boxes MSRP: $189.99 – $18.99 per cigar, with a significant portion of the price going to CANH which represents and lobbies for cigar rights in the Granite State. The cigars feature a coiled cap resembling the unfurled fronds of locally found Fiddlehead ferns and are enjoyed as a local delicacy.

The following is a statement from blender, Steve Saka about the cigar: “The CANH “Fiddlehead” is a Limited Production puro crafted exclusively for the Retail Members of the C.A.N.H. Cigar Association of New Hampshire by Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust. A significant portion of the proceeds are being contributed by both the Maker and all the Purveyors to support our organization’s efforts to ensure the rights of our State’s cigar smoking citizens, to preserve the legal standing as currently being the only State that recognizes the inherent differences between premium handmade cigars vs. all other tobacco products, and to continue to protect the tax free status for handmade cigars sold within the Great State of New Hampshire. We are an island of “Common Sense Policies” is a sea of high taxation and burdensome regulations enacted by all of the other States that surround us. When you light a CANH “Fiddlehead” you will not only be enjoying an exquisite cigar, you will be helping us to protect our freedoms. Thank You.”

The CANH Fiddlehead boasts a medium brown Sumatra wrapper that is velvety smooth with a significant oily sheen. The draw is firm but acceptable, and the cold draw brings notes of barnyard, leather, and caramel.
Upon lighting, the cigar reveals a light baking spice from the wrapper, along with notes of leather, graham cracker, and salted caramel. The finish is thick and long, characterized by smooth, salty, sweet, and cedary flavors. Although the burn starts a bit wavy, it quickly evens out on its own, and the ash is white with a thin burn line. The ash naturally falls at about 1/2 inch. The cigar is medium-bodied and medium in strength.
As the cigar progresses, the body remains medium, but the strength drops slightly. The flavors include salty, mineral notes, with a retrohale of white pepper and woody undertones. The salted caramel sweetness persists in the background without being overpowering.
In the final third, the body increases to medium-plus. Sweet woody notes emerge, accompanied by soft cocoa flavors that join the leather, salt, and mineral. The leather and wood deepen towards the end of the cigar.
The CANH Fiddlehead is a solid cigar that supports a worthy cause, and for both reasons is not just blowing smoke. Before I finished writing this review, we had already sold out our initial allocation for online sales. If you are fortunate enough to get a few or a box, you will not be disappointed.
