Tatuaje La Riqueza SE 2024

The Tatuaje La Riqueza SE 2024 comes in two different wrappers: a Connecticut Broadleaf and a Mexican San Andres. This review focuses on the Connecticut Broadleaf version, which is limited to 1500 boxes of 10, much fewer than the 4500 box run of the SE 2022.

  • Wrapper: Connecticut Broadleaf
  • Binder: Nicaragua
  • Filler: Nicaragua
  • Size: Cazadores 6 3/8 x 44

The mottled medium brown Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper has a few visible veins and a smooth matte finish. The draw is nice, with barnyard and leather notes on the cold draw.

Upon lighting, I taste leather, cream, lemon zest, and a hint of black pepper on the finish. The retrohale has a soft pepper note. The white ash is solid with no flaking, and the burn is even. The ash holds for well over an inch before naturally falling off.

In the second third, the flavors continue with a significant increase in pepper in the retrohale. The lemon citrus notes become a little tart, overtaking the cream notes from the first third. After about five minutes, the tartness fades, the cream returns, and the leather notes deepen with cedar notes emerging. The burn remains steady.

In the final third, the leather, cream, and cedar continue with occasional hits of lemon zest. The pepper spice stays soft on the finish, and the retrohale is a mix of leather and pepper. Bonus points for the band slipping cleanly off the body. The cigar starts as a lighter medium-bodied smoke and slowly increases to just past medium but not quite medium-plus. Towards the end, the cream fades, leaving the deeper notes of leather and cedar wood.

Like its SE 2022 predecessor, the La Riqueza SE 2024 shows a consistent profile and has marked similarities with its older brother. The La Riqueza SE 2024 has an enjoyable profile and great construction. If the SE 2022 is any indication, it should age well. Therefore, the La Riqueza SE 2024 is not just blowing smoke and is highly recommended.
