Meerapfel Meir Pyramid

The Meerapfel cigar lines are a testament to the Meerapfel family’s long-standing presence in the tobacco industry since the 1600s. Named after Meir Meerapfel, who established the Meerapfel cigar factory in Untergrombach, Germany in 1876, the Meir Pyramid follows the company’s release pattern of 613 boxes each year. The distinctive bands on their cigars are designed by a leading Belgian lacemaker and produced by Van Tintelen Printing Art B.V. in the Netherlands.

The Meir Pyramid sports a stunning iridescent gold paper lace band over a mottled medium brown wrapper with a slight oil sheen and a slightly toothy texture to it.

Upon lighting, the initial flavors are a delightful mix of nuts, baker spice, lemon citrus, and cream. There is a musty undertone that speaks to the age of the tobaccos. The ash is white and tight with no flaking at all, and the burn line is thin and the burn is eve.

As the cigar progresses, the flavors evolve to include orange zest, cedar, coffee, leather, and a hint of mineral. The burn remains even, and the ash continues to hold well.

In the final third, the wrapper split about an inch but I decided to keep going and see what happened. The flavors transition to smoky cedar and pepper, which is especially noticeable in the retrohale along with additional notes of olive wood and baking spice. Despite the tear in the wrapper, the cigar smoked perfectly and maintained its integrity to the end.

The Meir Pyramid offers a complex and evolving flavor profile with excellent construction and burn characteristics. The wrapper split in the final third did not detract from the overall smoking experience and speaks to the excellence of its construction. This was a supremely satisfying and enjoyable cigar and was most definitely not just blowing smoke! Highly recommended.
