Savinelli’s 145, their 145th anniversary blend, has been re-released. It is a crumble cake blend of St. James Perique, Bright and Red Virginia, and double fermented Dark Fired Kentucky from the Tuscan Tiber Valley region in Italy.
The cake breaks apart easily and rubs out to broken ribbon and lights easily. You can watch my unboxing video below.
It is very smooth and creamy. There are notes of chocolate, stewed fruit, nuts, and a light pepper spice with a hint of raisin in the retro. The finish is long with flavors of cream, nuts, and fig. As the bowl progresses, the Dark Fired Kentucky comes more to the front bringing notes of smoked wood, roasted nuts, and a muted black pepper spice. The retro also becomes spicier, and the notes of fig and raisins deepen. The blend is medium-bodied and medium + in strength. There is a healthy dose of “vitamin N” here!
Savinelli 145 has been a popular blend in the past and is sure to remain so with this release. It is extremely limited at only 2,500 tins, so if you find it, grab it while you can! Definitely not just blowing smoke with this one! Highly recommended.
